THE SHORT ANSWER
What to know first
For many first-time visitors, the cooler part of the year is the easiest for comfort. That does not make it a guaranteed catch season. A safe, enjoyable departure still depends on the wind, waves and the captain’s assessment for your exact date.
A useful way to think about the year
Hua Hin fishing is possible in different parts of the year, but the experience changes. Some guests care most about cooler air and family comfort. Others can handle heat and prefer quieter travel dates. The calendar helps you prepare; it cannot promise a flat sea or a particular catch.
Captain Yod checks the current conditions and may change the route, move the fishing area or recommend another date. That practical decision is more important than a generic online ‘best month’ list.
| Period | What guests usually notice | How to plan |
|---|---|---|
| November–February | Cooler mornings and strong holiday demand | Book earlier and bring a light layer for the start |
| March–May | Hotter sun and warmer afternoons | Choose the morning trip, cover up and drink water |
| June–October | More changeable rain, wind and sea conditions | Keep the date flexible and wait for captain confirmation |
Cooler months: comfortable, but often busier
From roughly November through February, many visitors find the morning temperature more comfortable. This can be helpful for children, older relatives and anyone who is new to spending four hours on a working boat.
It is also Hua Hin’s busy visitor season. Boat and captain availability can tighten, especially around holidays. If your dates are fixed, send the request early rather than waiting for the final week.
Hot months: start early and plan for the sun
March through May can feel very hot. The morning departure avoids the strongest part of the afternoon and gives families a clearer routine: fish first, eat on board, and swim or paddle only if conditions and equipment allow.
Bring sun protection, light long sleeves, non-slip footwear, water-friendly clothing and any personal medication. Shade is available on the covered deck, but the open fishing areas are still exposed.
Changeable months: flexibility matters more than forecasts
During the wetter part of the year, a weather icon alone does not tell you whether a trip can run. A short shower can be less important than wind direction, waves or visibility. Conditions can also improve between the time you book and the morning of departure.
If Captain Yod considers the sea unsafe, the trip is rescheduled or refunded under the written confirmation. If fishing is safe but swimming is not, the trip can still run without swimming.
Morning or night in each season?
Morning fishing is the more flexible first choice for families and mixed groups. It includes daylight, a simple meal and the possibility of swimming, snorkeling, kayaking or SUP when the sea is safe and the equipment is available.
Night squid fishing is a different experience: the trip starts at 6:00 PM, continues after dark and uses working lights for squid fishing. Choose it because you want the night atmosphere and squid-fishing method, not because any month can guarantee squid.
